Group Show

Digital Exhibition in The Empty Gallery

Accepting Artist Submissions Now

Have you ever wanted to show your art at SHRINE? Now’s your chance– Group Show is an open invitation to artists of all styles and mediums to virtually share their work as part of a new collaborative virtual exhibition. Artists and contributors participate by downloading photographs of the gallery (documented as an empty space) and then digitally inserting and manipulating their own artwork and imagery into the source photos.

The initial inspiration for this project was artists and galleries around the world adapting to present art online in meaningful new ways while unable to connect in person during the pandemic. Now, in 2021, with renewed hope and energy, we are excited to launch Group Show, a community-driven digital exhibition open to all artists.

For the project, SHRINE was documented in its native state with no art installed and pristine white walls. These images are now available for download with the hope that artists will Photoshop their own creative works into the space to help build an ever-expanding group show. Individuals wanting to submit work to the show must insert their own imagery into one of the empty gallery photographs and then email their submission to: groupshow@shrine.nyc as a JPEG, GIF, or VIDEO. Video-submissions must include a YouTube or Vimeo link and also a properly-sized thumbnail JPEG at the exact file-specifications provided.

The gallery will then create and organize the online show from the pool of submissions as part of an ongoing virtual exhibition and archive (offensive or divisive imagery will not be considered for the exhibition). Further detailed guidelines can be found at:

Expanding far beyond the number of artists and works that can be physically shown at the gallery, Group Show will provide a unique moment and opportunity to work with a much broader cross-section of creators than is usually possible. Submissions will remain open through the month of February 2021.

Special thanks to photographer, Cary Whittier (@c_whittier), for documenting SHRINE as an empty gallery for this project.
