Word Search Drawings
Word Search Drawings is an online exhibition of new works on paper by Michael Angelo Mangino, a self-taught artist from New Jersey who developed a non-objective style of painting intuitively, without awareness of the broader history of abstraction in art.
Mangino is also an avid player of word searches, and he almost always has one of his beloved game books on hand. The words found in these puzzles are clearly important to the artist, as he repeatedly draws them in descending order over his abstract painted backgrounds on paper. Poetic and somehow poignant, these lists and drawings document a portion of Mangino's life that he takes very seriously and that brings him comfort and relaxation.
All works are available for direct purchase online, with prices ranging from $250 to $400.

Michael Angelo Mangino (b. 2004) is based in Pittstown, NJ and creates his paintings and drawings at Studio Route 29, an art studio and local creative hub for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He began attending Studio Route 29 in 2022 through FIERCE, his high school’s community instruction program, and quickly developed into a sophisticated artist and non-objective painter. Making art has become a key means of expression and sharing for Mangino, as he is primarily non-speaking.
