Timothy Wehrle

Bio

Timothy Wehrle’s (b. 1978, Iowa) obsessive drawings, rendered in colored pencils and graphite, call to mind the patterning and romanticism of Persian miniatures and at the same time reference the idiosyncratic vision of art brut artists such as Augustin Lesage. Wehrle’s drawings are patchworks of scenes both real and imagined. In these works, one sees the artist’s emotional labor unfold and can sense an ongoing quest for a sense of self and belonging. Born and raised in southeast Iowa, Wehrle began exhibiting his work in 2003 and has since shown at Cavin Morris, PPOW, and Dieu Donne in New York, NY.
